Passing-Out Parade for New Cadets!

Ten new air cadets were officially welcomed as members of 2247 (Hawarden) Squadron Air Training Corps during a formal ceremony - their Passing-Out Parade - this week.

The parade - reviewed by Officer Commanding No 2 Welsh Wing, Wing Commander Tim Kingman and held at the Squadron HQ on Manor Lane - was the culmination of several months initial training for the new cadets and a chance to show off their uniform and skills in marching drill to the assembled parents and guests.

Cadet Warrant Officer Ryan Sheppard is responsible for the initial training of new cadets to the Squadron, having gone through the process himself just 6 years ago. He said: "It's always great to see new cadets during their Passing-Out Parade. The difference in their attitude from day one until the parade is awesome and is a testament to the hard work and effort put in by both the new cadets and those responsible for their training."

At the end of proceedings, two presentations were made to the "Best Recruit" and "Most Improved Recruit" for the intake - Cadets Matthew Barnes and Christopher Harris respectively - both of whom put a great amount of effort into their preparation for the final parade.

Congratulations to all our new cadets! If you want to join our next intake - for which we are recruiting now - find out more here.

In her first official engagement as Patron of the RAF Air Cadets, HRH The Duchess of Cambridge launched a year of cadet activity to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the formation of the Air Training Corps (ATC). The Duchess attended a church service at the RAF Church at St Clement Danes, London on ATC Sunday - 7th February - and a reception held nearby at the Royal Courts of Justice.

She met cadets, veterans and adult volunteers at the service and reception having taken over the important role from HRH The Duke of Edinburgh just before Christmas, ending his 63-year association with this world-renowned uniformed youth organisation.

CWO Sheppard with his certificate of appointment

This week saw the promotion of one of our cadets to the highest rank - that of Cadet Warrant Officer. CWO Ryan Sheppard is the first to achieve the rank for a few years and now assumes the position of Senior Cadet NCO - responsible for leadership over the cadet NCO team - and forms a bridge between the cadets and staff.

The appointment of Cadet Warrant Officers is subject to the approval of Commandant Air Cadets - the head of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets - and is made on the recommendation of the Officer Commanding of the cadet's Wing. CWO Sheppard had an interview with Wg Cdr Kingman - OC No 2 Welsh Wing - late last year.

Congratulations to CWO Sheppard on his appointment and best of luck in his new role!
